I was pleased to be one of the many people on the 2001 MONSU / VUSU tour. This ten day tour to Great Keppel Island and the Gold Coast cost less than $600 and was well worth every cent. I had a great time, got to meet some very nice people from all over the world and had the time of my life.

I think three factors really contributed a lot towards the tour being such a great success. The first was the locations. A tropical island and the Gold Coast. What more could you ask for? The second was the value for money. Where else could you do so much, go so far and have such in depth and thrilling experiences for so little money? You couldn't do it yourself in a car even with a few mates.

Finally, the most important factor was the excellent service. From our coach driver and cook, right through our tour leaders, the service staff on Great Keppel and even the people serving at the shops, the service was excellent. People went out of their way to make sure we had a great time and a trouble free holiday. That really stood out for me.

Parts of the tour were:

Great Keppel Island - The Gold Coast / Broadwater - Bus Travel - People

Things to consider when going on the trip include being sure to take money for express travel food and souvenirs. I have pointed out a few locations where I thought souvenir prices were best. I suggest you really take into account the following when taking the trip:

  • Take lots of sunscreen. It is provided to an extent, but you will need some on you all the time.
  • You should only need one change of cold weather clothing, suitable for clubbing if you plan to.
  • The most suitable clothing is loose and cool. You can wear layers if it gets cold
  • You can buy T-shirts for about $20-$25 on Great Keppel if you keep an eye out for a bargain
  • Don't go overboard on packing. People have to carry your bag. Laundry facilities are available.
  • You won't need any sharp knives and won't need a tea towel.
  • You will definitely need plate, bowl and cutlery. Don't forget them. Plastic is lightest.
  • A re-sealable drink bottle is a must.
  • There is an ATM and public phones on Great Keppel marked on the map.
  • I recommend doing the sea kayaking, underwater observatory and boom netting in that order. That way you learn snorkeling first, see the reef then get close up to it.
  • The underwater observatory is a must do!
  • Don't forget to take your sense of adventure and fun!
